Melbourne v Geelong Round 3
Melbourne out-Geelonged Geelong!
One of Geelong's great traits last year was there tough, hard persistance on the ball. For such a young team, they were never intimidated by even the most aggressive teams. Today, they just didn't have the cattle do keep up. Melbourne was not only ferocious, but incredibly talented. The star was obviously Cameron Bruce with over 30 touches, many marks and a couple of goals - Geelong had no-one to go with him.
Josh Hunt and Darren Milburn did their best in defense but could not keep up against the barrage. I would probably give Hunt one vote for his performance. Doing his best to keep Geelong in the game was Gary Ablett and along with Milburn I would say their efforts were worth two votes.

Speaking of Melbourne, they have one of the classiest players doing the rounds at the minute in Cameron Bruce. At this stage, I would be pretty sure that both he and Paul Licuria would be perched on 6 Brownlow Votes.
Cameron Bruce certainly has evolved. Originally a hit and miss forward, he has now gone the full circle in that he has returned again to the forward lines after becoming quite an adept midfielder.
Bruce has evolved over a lengthy period but the main reason for his ascension into footballs elite midfielders, is clearly his commitment to aerobic fitness. His engine is now a concern for other coaches and this, combined with his ability to go forward, make him hard to match up and a definite BROWNLOW chance. In fact, at present, I would say his 10 or 15-1 is probably over the odds given his teams brilliant performances in rounds 1 to 3.
A key component of Bruces game is ability to get to contests. Of course, this has to be matched by adroit manouvreability once at the contest, a skill he has in bucketloads.
For one so savvy in front of goals, it is quite ironic that he is particularly sound in the defensive aspects of his game. His tackling and general football smarts are both high quality.
Perhaps his biggest weakness is his 0-20 speed which, although improved, is a concern in the early parts of games when the speed of other players and the overall game is up. That said, if his role, under the wily Daniher, is to start up forawrd and come into the game after the 'speed is off', then he will continue to be a strong contender for this years medal.
Keep his for under watch as he is also particularly resilient and can be sure to drift in betting.
